Now that's cold

I wondered what ever became of Akili Smith, former Duck quarterback. This article suggests that he is a temp. Funny shit.

With good comes bad

So while Jen is finally smiling, I had a pretty depressing day. I am realizing that I am not meeting people like I had hoped I would. I've got all sorts of time on my hands, and no one here to do anything with. Part of the depression comes from talking with my ex who is considering marrying someone she "gets along with" rather than loves truly deeply. She is the dreamer who now seems to have abandoned the dream.

The 17 year itch

So, many states are being inundated by cicadas. These bugs come up from beneath the ground once every 17 years. Apparently, they also give birds diaheria. These bugs live above the ground for 2 1/2 weeks, but live beneath the surface for like 17 years!!!! It's like Groundhog Day to the extreme.

Malik the Duck

The Ducks signed Malik Hairston for the basketball program. Yes, he is the biggest recruit to come to Oregon for basketball. He's supposed to be the 7th best player coming out of the high school ranks this year. He could be the best player coming out of high school not entering the NBA draft. There are 10 players on that list coming out of high school. That means that there could be NBA players worse than a Duck.

In other Duck basketball news, Freddie Jones went scoreless in tonight's Pacer loss to the Magic. Last I had heard he was doing well. Despite not scoring, he still played 13 minutes.

In even more Duck basketball news, the Blazers worked out former Duck Luke Jackson. He is expected to go in the first round. Some have predicted as hight as a lottery pick.

UpdateESPN did report the signing... though you really have to look for it buried pages and pages from the main college basketball home page. But there it is in case you thought I was lying.

Happy Birthday

Not to me or my blog, but 21st to Special Skillz. I think her birthday was a few days ago. I apolgize for missing it.

Happy?

There we go. Links, email link, and the damn archive stuff is way at the bottom. I still need to add links to my early, early, early blog entries. I've been blogging for over four years. I probably should find out when this blog's birthday is.

My links are shorter now than they were before. I tried to make it a list of pages I view on a regular basis, rather than just an eclectic list of pages I had enjoyed at one time or another. Sadly, many of my former favorites are no longer blogging. But at least Mr. Poon hasn't stopped. His page has made the loss of Patentpending more bearable.

Oh, and I've made nearly $1,000 in the last week playing poker.

Professional Poker Player

Ah, since I am unemployed (again), I am (again) a professional poker player. This time around it is going much better. I have made enough in the last week to pay rent, insurance, and for one week's worth of groceries. Perhaps I should just chalk that run up to luck. Perhaps.

Anyway, I need to start making appointments for health care stuff being as I am on my last month of health insurance.

Oh, about the redesign, Chris suggested I change templates. I think I will be happier with this new redesign, although it does but more pressure on me to have actual good posts, which for me are few and far between. I will have to do some adjustments now that all my links are gone.
