Pocket 3's
So I was playing at a local home game. Low limit no Limit (ie $15 buy in, .10/.20 blinds). We started out as two tables. The table I was at featured a guy I had not seen in years. He was hyper-aggressive and would buy pots all the time with like $1-$2 raises with .50 in the pot. Anyway, once we got to a single table we almost had a family pot. I had 33 in the small blind and smooth called. Wild man raised like $5. I had about $9 left and figured him for a bluff at the $1.50 pot. I re-raised him all in and he called. He flipped over AA. I made a runner-runner straight and doubled up. Later that night, I went all in with 33 again as a joke, but got the same guy as a caller. This time he had AK. Flop came with nothing to help him and I again doubled up on him. Unfortunately, between these two events I flopped the nut straight, got someone to follow me all in because of loose play like reraising with 3's. Unfortunately, the guy caught a boat on the river crippling me. Somehow, despite being down to approximately $2 I made it back up to $30 for the night, up $15.
Anyway, the point of this post is to ask a question of any poker players who happen upon this page: After beating AK with 33, the guy said he'd take AK over 33 in a heads up game anytime. Is it just me, or isn't this the type of player I want to play against? I mean he prefers to have a hand that can become huge rather than the statistical favorite. He didn't realize that a QJ is better than AK in heads up against the 33. Am I wrong, or is 33 stronger in heads up than traditional power rankings suggest because it is already a made hand and only needs to beat one hand.
